Every Unit Gets Its Own Fiber Pair

Most community fiber networks split a single strand among dozens of homes. BroadStar builds an Active Optical Network, or AON. A dedicated fiber pair runs from our equipment straight to the unit, and it serves that unit only.

What dedicated actually means

In a shared network design, one fiber leaves the equipment room and is split among as many as 32 homes. Everyone on that branch draws from the same pool of capacity. It works fine at 10 in the morning. It behaves differently at 8 on a Tuesday night. AON gives every unit its own fiber and its own port on an active switch. There is no split, no shared branch, and no pool to draw down. A resident streaming in 4K does not change what the unit next door gets.

The complaints your board hears are usually an architecture problem

Boards tend to blame customer service when speeds sag in the evening. Slow service during peak hours is almost always the network design, not the support team. No amount of troubleshooting fixes a branch that is oversubscribed by
design. This matters most on a long agreement. A bulk contract runs a decade. The architecture your community commits to now is the architecture it lives with through two or three generations of resident bandwidth demand.
